For those of us who put “healthy diet” on our new year’s resolution list, it can be quite a feat to completely cut out desserts. I personally have a big sweet tooth and look forward to cozying up on my sofa with some chocolate goodness and my favorite TV show after a long day. So how can we go about snacking without feeling bad about what we’re actually eating? Simple! You can try substituting certain ingredients with healthier alternatives! There’s one particular fruit that works extremely well in chocolate based sweets and if you haven’t tried it out already, you most certainly should give avocado a chance.
Chocolate Avocado Pudding
This avocado chocolate pudding is such a simple treat to make! If you don’t have a ton of time to devote to whipping up something tasty then this is a perfect option for you. Since the avocado adds all of the creaminess, you avoid having to use creamy dairy products and can use almond milk instead. You can also go ahead and use raw agave nectar rather than sugar.
Chocolate Avocado Brownies
Brownies are a hard treat to give up. All of the gooey goodness. No way can I part with them, but luckily I don’t have to. These bad boys are a healthier alternative to your traditional option, and they are gluten free as well!
Chocolate Avocado Cookies
These cookies will satisfy your snacking desires! Having avocado replace butter is a huge plus! Eliminating unhealthy elements of your cookies and adding a fruit with nearly 20 essential nutrients instead…sounds good to me!
Chocolate Chip Banana Avocado Bread
This may sound odd to you, but it sounds about right to us! The recipe reassures us that the flavor of the banana overpowers that of the avocado, and the avocado is just acting to reduce the amount of unhealthy fat present. While this isn’t the most healthy option for dessert, it’s still better than old fashioned bread!
Chocolate Avocado Frosting
This last option is a must. The cupcake recipe is great (it’s vegan and uses applesauce, bananas and almond milk), but it’s the frosting that really intrigues us. Avocados, cocoa powder, maple syrup and vanilla extract whipped up and spread on a cupcake. Yum!
