It’s Friday and we can’t wait to unchain ourselves from our desks and get out and about. Weekend Wanderer is a new series that you’ll find every Friday morning featuring a few activities we’d like to explore. Check them out for yourself or do something in your neck of the woods. Either way, just get out and wander.
Laundry on Lawrence, Denver, Colorado
We’re digging Denver’s tight community ties. The city’s Space Creators are providing affordable studio spaces for artists and small business for the third time. The new building, Laundry on Lawrence, features both a gallery and and theater. The grand opening party tonight includes a juried art exhibition in the gallery, with awards being given out at 8 p.m. Of course, also be sure to check out the live music, photo booth, and film screenings that will take place this evening as well. The Laundry located at 2701 Lawrence Street.
Rummage-a-rama, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
We so wish we could be at the Wisconsin State Fair Park this weekend because Rummage-A-Rama! is back for the season. The giant rummage sale began in 1970 and continues to be an array of new and old items up for sale. Only held five weekends a year on Fair Park grounds, it is definitely worth the visit. Admission is $2 and two canned goods donated to the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee. For the best finds, get to Rummage-A-Rama! early Saturday.
Waffle Party, Miami, Florida
We love that Miami’s indie music store Sweat Records uses their event space to regularly throw a waffle party. Aside from offering LPs and CDs, the store will be stocked with waffle toppings such as fresh fruit and whipped cream. Starting at 11 a.m. this Sunday, $6 vegan Belgian waffles and a smorgasbord of toppings are up for grabs. If that isn’t enough to win you over, we’d like to point out that Sweat Records routinely offers live music, movie nights, origami workshops, and stand up comedy to the community. If you’re feeling a hankering for sweets this weekend, get yourself to Sweat Records, 5505 NE 2nd Ave.
