The weather is warmer, the sun is brighter and days are longer. What better season than spring to awaken your well-rested urge to wander and discover (and eat great food) than at the Vegan Spring Shop-Up this Saturday. To give you a taste at what to expect at this food pop-up, we’ve caught up with three vendors experiencing firsts this time at the market. For Ryann Mead of Fine + Raw and David Hall of Harmony Kitchen, it will be their first time at the Vegan Shop Up. Relative veteran Mérida Anderson of Vegan Secret Suppers is debuting her new cookbook! Read on to get a mouth-watering preview of what to expect.
Vegan Secret Supper
What are some vegan meals we can expect to see in your cookbook?
Along with all the menus from past supper clubs are some favorites I often repeat, like sweet potato crème brûlée, and lentil walnut tourtière with carrot tamarind chutney.
What inspired you to collect your recipes and share them in your cookbook?
I had lots of scraps and papers from Vegan Secret Suppers of all the menus and recipes that were half written down. Since I never used a cookbook, I thought I should just make one! It’s something I have wanted to do for a long time.
Will you be selling food at the Shop-Up? If so, what’s on the menu?
I am traveling down from Montreal the night before, so I am hoping to make something but I don’t have that much time. If I do, I am thinking about making some coconut oil spelt sablé cookies, something simple!
How did you find out about the Vegan Shop-Up?
My friend Demetrius Bagley, the producer of the documentary Get Vegucated, first told me about the Vegan Shop-Up. I remember thinking that it was a fantastic idea.
What will you be selling this weekend?
We’re going to go savory this Saturday, featuring our Southern BBQ seitan, chick melt panini and “bacon”, caesar and dill potato salads.
What are you looking forward to eating at the Shop-Up?
I haven’t tried the Treeline cheeses, so I definitely want to get a taste.
Fine + Raw Chocolate
What made you decide to join the Vegan Shop-Up?
We are friends and neighbors of Pine Box Rock Shop and stopped in to check out the Shop-Up last month. After that, we wanted to join in on the fun.
What treats will you be selling?
We will be selling an assortment of our delicious chocolate bars and chunkies, which are creamy, decadent delights crafted with love and splendor, and covered in a layer of chocolate.
What foods are you excited to try at the Shop-Up?
Everything!! Especially Bunna Cafe Ethiopian — yum!
