For women and transgendered interested in learning more about tools, eco-friendly salvage yard Built It Green! NYC has launched a monthly class. Whether you want to learn the basics — like the most effective ways to saw and drill — or are seeking more experience with power tools before building your own furniture, the Know Your Tools: Women And Trans DIY 101 can answer all your questions with actual hands-on tool practice. This month’s focus is cabinet repairs and power tools. Atom Cianfarani, Sustainable Design Manager for the Gowanus location of Build It Green!NYC, will lead the workshop Tuesday, June 25 at their Brooklyn location.
New to the power drill and much less, having never held a saw before, I attended last month’s meeting. The straightforward directions were much appreciated by the eager group of learners handling chisels, saws and hammers. I went in with zero prior tool experience and came out with a decent grasp of basic woodworking techniques.
