If you’re feeling the panic of a growing holiday shopping list, worry not. New York City is populated with holiday pop-ups and markets this season. Of the many we love to visit and shop, we found a few that stand apart for the rest. This weekend, bypass accessible handmade jewelry and shop for designer goods at ManufactureNY X Love Us Holiday Pop-Up organized by local designer Bob Bland.
In between all her hustlin’ and bustlin’ last-minute preparations, we took a few minutes of her time to find out what’s in store. Read on to find out what’s on Bob’s shopping lists and so much more!
This Saturday, fashion incubator upstart Manufacture NY has teamed up with online retailer LOVE US to hold a one day pop-up shop featuring clothing, accessories and jewelry exclusively by American made, New York-based designers. The shop will run from from noon to 6 pm at The End Music, 13 Greenpoint Avenue in Brooklyn. In addition to the physical store, Manufacture New York is launching an online commerce component hosted by LOVE US. All of the profits from this shop will benefit independent designers involved along with Manufacture NY, founded by local designer Bob Bland.
Hey Bob! How did this holiday pop up come about?
This pop-up came about with our recent partnership with online startup (and exclusively Made In USA) boutique Love US, who are a perfect fit for our designers and a great platform to get the word out about Manufacture NY.
Ashley Shartle and her twin sister Alexandra Shartle conceived Love US— their aesthetic is such a great fit for local NYC designers.
What a great partnership! Tell us a little about the vendors.
All of our vendors are apparel, jewelry and home decor designers making locally and participating in Manufacture NY. They are primarily women-owned businesses and many are sustainable or eco-conscious as well. Several are making special collaborations just for the shop, like Love US’s tattoo-inspired collaboration with Frank Ryan Armstrong and my brand Brooklyn Royalty’s collaboration with fashion illustrator Gina Schiappacasse.
Buying great stocking stuffers is the best part of holiday shopping. Any good gifts under $20?
We have handmade soaps by MAD Soap, select jewelry by 80/20 Neckwear and Brooklyn Royalty’s archival t-shirt stock.
What’s on your holiday shopping list this year?
My holiday shopping list is all handmade! I’m getting dip-dyed silk scarves for my mother and aunts, an embroidered second birthday dress for my daughter Penny and the usual festive screenprinted Bland tees I make each year for the whole family! It’s actually more affordable & convenient for me to take a class at Brooklyn Brainery or Textile Art Center and make something instead of buying!
