Several times a week Kyla Burney of Adaptations crosses state lines to share her love of found objects. She lives in Stamford, Connecticut but commutes to North Brooklyn where she sells her curated collection of vintage furniture and home goods.

“I was selling out of my home and realized I needed more space,” she says. So she found a studio in Greenpoint, along the East River waterfront and turned it into her showroom.

Although it’s best to set up an appointment to visit her shop, Kyla’s vibe is anything but exclusive. A friendly, welcoming seller, she’ll explain the story behind each piece. She’s gracious about handing out cool water on a hot day and she just might have snacks on hand as you browse her collection of Mid-Century modern and retro items.

“I sell things that I would put into my own home,” she says. She picks up her finds in upstate New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. She’s hoping to take a trip to California soon to see how the west coast look inspires her.

We love her simple layouts. She often pairs wood and metal items and decorates with a set of test tubes or a single painted portrait. Kyla’s design work includes wellness centers in New York City and a restaurant in Westchester County.
