For some, repurposing is a hobby. For Cindy of the Chic and Cheap NYC blog, reworking fashion and curbside finds is a lifestyle. Her own home is decorated with both curbside finds and Krrb finds like a Moroccan rug and mirrored dresser It’s why Cindy is taking over the Krrb Instagram this weekend with tips and even a tutorial on repurposing.
Stay tuned to our Instagram feed as Cindy hunts down curbside funds and gives us peeks into her DIY toolbox. She doesn’t go anywhere without her tape measure, screwdriver and an old Victorinox pocket knife.
Since she can remember, Cindy has been a repurposer. It began in her father’s wood shop where he made a beautiful chest he made from old church pew benches. Growing up on the Jersey Shore, Cindy was a frequenter shopper of the seasonal bulk trash pile ups. From rare Turkish rugs to scraps of sample fabrics, Cindy was finding a use for them all.
When it comes to repurposing fashion, Cindy looks for patterns, colors and quality of the material. She sticks to classic cuts and pays attention to details. For furniture, Cindy recommends testing the sturdiness of an item before repurposing. If it isn’t sturdy, she asks herself what it takes for it to be fixed. A few tweaks can really renovate a piece of furniture.
