No matter where you turn these days the desert city of Palm Springs, California is all the talk. Since the Palm Springs episodes of Saved by The Bell in the 1990’s, I’ve been enamored with the city mostly known for its golf courses (my dad is a big fan). Recently Palm Springs has been rebranded as a hot spot for all things cool. From vintage shopping to design to food and everything in between, this hot city (we’re talking high 90’s and 100-degree weather) really is the hottest place to be right now. Whether you make it to Palm Springs or not, see how to get these chic desert vibes in your own space.
The Sparrows Lodge offers the rustic charm that you probably aren’t use to seeing in a desert setting. From wood walls to the overall architecture, this moody space provides an ideal escape from the dry heat. They kept the interior design on the darker side too by using the same wood tones in all aspects of their furniture choices.
These brown leather butterfly sling chairs accent any corner of a room (especially if you are going for a more rustic vibe). Easy California effort meets desert living, all wrapped up in one chair.
Artwork is the perfect way to add complexity to any room and create a dramatic focal point. This Mid-century abstract painting fits perfectly with the rest of the room’s aesthetic.
If you’re looking to add texture to your space while keeping the tones of the room in the neutral family, consider a vintage Moroccan kilim rug. And yes it’s possible to find these in muted colors rather than the bright ones you may be use to seeing.
The Parker Palm Springs
If you’re looking for the traditional Palm Springs aesthetic, then The Parker Palm Springs is the place for you. White lacquered furniture and Hollywood Regency-inspired pieces fill the rooms of this hotel. Dying to mimic some of this glamour in your home? Start by introducing items with brass accents or Mid-century pieces that have fun and kitschy characteristics.
A glass coffee table with brass accents is the perfect starter piece for turning a space into a Hollywood Regency mecca. The simplicity of the table will allow you to add accessories and texture as much or as little as you want.
Using glass, brass and white furniture allow you to play around with bright pops of color. This emerald green Mid-century lamp pops on any surface.
If you’re brave enough to have white seating in your home, then more power to you! These white Hollywood Regency-inspired chairs compliment the LA charm you’ve already introduced to a room.
Avalon Palm Springs
The Avalon Palm Springs takes glamour to the next level! The rooms here exclusively feature the black and white color scheme that not everybody can pull off well. It’s a bold look, but by adding the right elements you can copy this yourself in no time. Try balancing different finishes, textures and shapes in order to keep the space visually interesting.
This black and gold vintage console has been on my personal wish list and is a great addition in a black and white room.
Since you’re not introducing any other colors besides black and white, it’s important to incorporate unique pieces. The shape of this Milo Baughman chair makes it the complete opposite of boring!
To tie the whole theme together, you need to totally commit! A patterned rug unites your furniture and accessories while still bringing drama to the environment!
The Hotel Lautner
The interior of The Hotel Lautner is truly a Mid-century lovers dream! This place will have you feeling like you have stepped into Palm Springs during the 1950’s. You’ll find all of the famous designers housed here from Herman Miller to Milo Baughman- the gang really is all there! While your wallet may not be handle purchasing all of those iconic pieces, you can look in awe till your heart’s content!
I’m personally a fan of furniture that is commonly referred to as “masculine”. This Milo Baughman velvet couch is as chic as they come (bonus points for the chrome details!)
Lighting is key to establishing the overall mood of a room. This marble base arc lamp will be the center of attention in the room while also providing the best mood lighting.
Every good room needs the right side chairs. Whether they’re for additional seating, stacking books or housing blankets- it is a necessity! The unique color and shape of this Mid-century pair make it a solid investment.
The Ace Hotel
The Ace Hotel always seems to be the coolest kid on the block! The mix of design elements here is so fantastic and works in every way. From classic Mid-century pieces to traditional furniture and peppered in modern and bold elements, these rooms are stunning.
I love a good Eames chair as much as the next person, but always encourage scouring markets for an original pieces to add to your home. This 1950’s French fiberglass chair is the one you’ve been looking for!
A good vintage rug will work wonders in any space, especially if you’re looking to achieve the cool look of the Ace Hotel. This antique Persian rug will add a layer of design magic to the room without completely stealing the show.
From reflecting light to brighten the space, mirrors make a room seem bigger and better. Lean this vintage Broyhill mirror against a wall and add a few plants to capture this chic style.
