Crafting Design — Build It Green! NYC Silent Auction

Share:

Creatives of all types gathered at Build It Green! NYC in Gowanus on a rainy May 19. Despite the gray weather, designers, builders, and DIYers took discarded chairs and created something new at the MAKESHIFT DIY Chair Workshop. Leading the way were Natalie Chanin, creator of design company Alabama Chanin and Amy Devers of A&E’s “Fix This Yard”. Chairs created during this workshop are now available in a silent auction on Krrb. All proceeds go to Build It Green! NYC, New York City’s only non-profit retail outlet for salvaged and surplus building materials.

Click through to see these chairs in the making and be sure to visit the silent auction to own a piece of local flavor.

Nice! Now we need to do this in Chicago!

Build It Green! NYC is an amazing organization that has diverted 1,200 tons of re-useable building materials from local landfills. So, if you are thinking of redecorating your home or replacing your current furniture, please do not just discard the old on the curb for trash pick up. Remember, used furniture can be useful for someone else, and if you can afford to redecorate, you can afford to bring them down to Build it Green! If you are revamping your bathroom or kitchen, they accept sinks, bathtubs and toilet seats as well.
