Crafting Design - A MakeShift Chair Workshop Invite copy

Join us for a DIY Chair Workshop with Build it Green!NYC and Alabama Chanin during Design Week on Sunday, May 19, 2013. Building on the success of last year’s event, we’re at it again, alongside friends and design experts, Amy Devers and Tanya Aguiniga. Chairs, DIY tools and materials will be provided but space for the work shop is limited. The exhibition, sale and party are open to all.

The event will be located at everyone’s favorite reuse center, Build it Green!NYC at their Gowanus location. If you’ve never been, get ready to feast on Brooklyn’s secret treasure trove of building and home materials. To get a preview of the space, their goods and what will be on sale, check out their Krrb corner at Krrb.com/bignyc

Very personal chair.I like chiavari chair best.

  • This sounds like so much fun!! I’m all about “making it work,” oh i wish i could go! I think the Sandy benefit idea is terrific. In the aftermath of the storm, I’d say the actual mentality was, look what we’re left with and how can we still go about our lives? Thematically, it’s perfect, and just sounds like a really good time.

I’ve got several chairs desperate for funkifacation. I could use a little inspiration.

  • Oh my gosh how cool is this? I absolutely LOVE this idea, I love mixing home design and saving the environment ;) This shop gives people the opportunity to do both. Now if only one of these would open in Chicago?? That’s an idea! I love this story though, thanks for sharing!

  • If I were in the NYC area, I would be here in a heartbeat. I’ve been looking to put my creative (and green) skills to the test. This is a perfect opportunity to do so. Maybe one day :)

  • Nice! Hope I can make it to this, I am a huge fan of upcycling in general. I first learned about Alabama Chanin’s amazing work when I started my sustainable fashion blog (www.heartsleevesblog.com) back in 2011. What a great partnership! Now I just need an apartment to put the chair in…
