Variations of the modern day comic book have been around for centuries with the first “funnies” arriving in the US in the 1930’s. So it’s no shock, that comic book art and culture has influenced home decor. And when you consider that the San Diego Comic Con has hosted over 2 million attendees since its inauguration in the 1970’s, there is a large demographic of die-hard comic book fans that want their love for comic books expressed in unique ways. As a fan or graphic novels myself, I decided to take a look at this cool sub-genre of art and design to put together a round-up of 5 must-see pieces. Keep reading to determine if these furniture and decor items reinforce your love for comic books!

Seen from behind, this elegant and minimal 3D-modeled dining chair subtlety invokes the sweeping grandeur of a long cape. Either villian or hero, the choice is yours since creator, Nea Studio, purposely left the double curved back simple enough to be any cloaked crusader.

Shazam Coffee Table

Besides being a fun action word like Kapow!, Shazam was an Egyptian wizard who granted young Billy Batson powers to become Captain Marvel in a comic book with the same name. Since its initial release in the 1970’s, DC Comics later changed Captain Marvel’s name to Shazam in the comic books to avoid confusion with their competitor Marvel Comics. Much like the character it implies, this coffee table is a statement piece. Designed by Evil Robot Designs, the American Walnut table was created to be a modern take on classic comic book art.

Mexican furniture designer Oscar Nunez created the Comic Shelf as an ode to the ubiquitous speech bubbles in comic book art. Clearly a well-executed idea, this shelf started as a simple project but has since amassed quite a following. It can now be bought for the comic book nerd in your life.

Faux Wood Floors

A London home, lovingly referred to as the “Rainbow House”, upped it’s visual interest with custom faux-wood floors. The heavy black outline paired with the random pops of color synonymous with dark graphic novels completely transforms the room. Not pictured is the secret floor entrance to the slide. (Yes, a slide!)

Caught Red-Handed Accent Chair

Design Toscano’s Caught Red-Handed Chair looks as if a red costumed superhero just punched their way through the floor. It might be the glossy red paint or the muscular fingers that you associate with a protagonist like the Flash—or maybe its because superheroes are always willing to give you a hand.
