When Pantone declared emerald green as the color of 2013, we happily opened our homes to the jeweled hue.

The uplifting color inspires elegance and tranquility. And the association to baubles is no coincidence as the hue suggests wealth both material and otherwise. That’s not to say the color isn’t earthy — after all, green is found everywhere in nature and represents the cycle of renewal.

To incorporate calm and luxurious tones of emerald green into your home this fall, think small but powerful. Line your windows with your floor-to-ceiling emerald green curtains to keep the heat in. Toss jewel-tone pillows and throws on the sofa for those chilly nights and crowd chairs in the energizing color around the dining table for Sunday supper.

To add sophisticated accents of emerald green throughout the home, look at vintage and secondhand home accessories. An antique toolbox can be repurposed as kitchen storage and a medical cabinet adds visual interest while doubling as a bathroom caddy. As you incorporate the regal color into your home, keep in mind longevity. The classic feel of emerald green works though out the year. A stack of bold nesting boxes on your dresser will still be stimulating long after Pantone unveils the color for 2014.

Emerald Green in the Home

  • Oh! I love green. It is a great representative of nature. And
    green seems to imitate the vibrancy of being young. And I like the idea that
    Pantone chose this colour to be the colour of 2013.

    Thanks Leatrice! Do you have any personal tips for decorating with emerald green?

    Dear Vee;

    Thank you for liking our choice of Emerald Green as the Pantone color of the year. That is an amazing image of a grand old ruin of a palatial home.
