A clean and streamlined office space makes getting work done less of a headache. A few small additions like a bright lamp and potted plants create a sense of comfort and warmth. Combine natural elements like wood with industrial metal pieces for a layered look or design on a theme like Mid-Century Modern. Both looks are easily attainable at any budget so you can get down to work. Whether you have $800 to spend or less than $200, update your work area (and productivity!) with these finds.

Mid-Century Budget Update

Mid-Century Budget Office

Update your office on the cheap by sticking to a simple Mid-Century look. Start with a plain wooden desk that can fit into a small space. Slide in a modern chair. This one has been painted a light blue and refurbished in a patterned fabric. Stash a can of freshly-sharpened pencils near a light fixture like this eyeball lamp with original metal spring. Made in the 1950s by the Steber Lighting Company, it gives the space a sense of history.

Industrial Office Splurge

Industrial Office Space Splurge

Use wood and metal items to give your office an industrial update. A vintage drafting chair can be adjusted and lets you sit comfortably while looking like a sleek architecture student. A steel desk is solid and classic. Light the space with an upcycled pipe lamp made from recycled plumbing parts. As work gets heated, cool off with an old-school fan. Just be sure to aim it away from your latest blueprints.
