Decked out with Mid-Century modern delights, the Old Bones Co. has quickly become the furniture go-to for residents of Costa Mesa. With it’s eclectic mix of credenzas, industrial desks and modern furnishings, there’s no question that this store is a one-stop shop for vintage and industrial enthusiasts alike. We chatted with owner Sheila Jalalvand to get the 411 on Costa Mesa and how she makes old and new work as one.
Hi Sheila! What’s really good about this neighborhood?
Costa Mesa’s local economy relies heavily on retail and services, which makes it a thriving area for small businesses. The largest center of commercial activity is South Coast Plaza, a shopping center noted for its architecture and size. It’s also close to popular hangouts that the locals and non-locals go to. My favorite place to dine at is Habana which has great Cuban food. The neighborhood is quiet and calm and the city has an old charm and feel to it.
What do you do to draw people in?
We keep contact with local designers and advertise through our website. Our website showcases our unique and eclectic one-of-a-kind pieces that really draw people in. Also, I can’t forget our best attraction which is our store name “Old Bones.”
What do you sell that’s popular with the locals?
We have a wonderful mixture of different furniture pieces. Our inventory, which ranges from Mid-Century modern chairs to coffee tables and designer brands like Herman Miller, Knoll and Eames, keeps the crowd coming for more.
