This eclectic LA shop has something for everyone.

This eclectic LA shop has a little of something for everyone, whether you’re a local or an out-of-towner.

Running the gamet from Pagoda lanterns to a freestanding Aztec fireplace to perfectly wingback chairs straight out of the 1950s, Brainworks Home in Los Angeles carries it all. Stopping just short of renting a truck and driving cross country to get these one-of-a-kind finds, we caught up with Erin Adams, owner and Atousa Ziatabari, a designer for this Los Angles hot spot. Atousa fills us in how this home decor shop has become part of the design community and keeps customers returning.

Hi Atousa! What’s really good about this neighborhood?
It’s an up and coming eclectic area of LA. There are many restaurants with sidewalk seating, bakeries, other vintage stores, clothing, stationary, gift shops. It’s a diverse neighborhood and street parking is a plus.

What do you do to draw people in?
We usually stay open on the weekends since neighbors like to visit the bakeries and restaurants and walk around. Also, we run collaborative sales with neighboring stores.

Since we reach out to our audiences through social media marketing and direct email, we always make sure to notify our clients of our new inventory. Word of mouth in the interior design world is also a huge help. When we know what our design clients like, we purchase new merchandise with them in mind. For example, a small section of our store caters to designers and contractors looking for artisans for their design projects. We have new and vintage wallpaper, specialty finishes such as venetian plaster, mosaics, murals, decorative painting and an eco-friendly faux-venetian plaster product all for those clients.

What do you sell that’s popular with the locals?
Since most of the homes in this neighborhood were built around the 1920s and 1930s and many owners are now restoring these beauties, we have customers looking to restore with authentic antique and vintage hardware. We carry everything from vintage glass door knobs to drawer pulls, and switchplates. Wall sconces, chandeliers and table lamps are also extremely popular with the locals. Our mid century furniture, like our coffee tables and chairs, are also a big hit.

Thanks Atousa!
