Summer doesn’t officially start for another week, but the weather’s heating up in LA and schools are out. Which means, it’s the unofficial beginning of summer and patio dining in Los Angeles is calling.
Are you in LA and wondering which farm-to-table restaurants serve local eats on fabulous patios? Visiting Los Angeles and looking for a great meal—and perhaps a glass of biodynamic wine in a spectacular space?
For dining in LA that feels more like a dinner party than your same-old restaurant experience, make your way to one of these farm-to-table restaurants with great patios
Gracias Madre serves organic, vegan Mexican cuisine in West Hollywood. Despite being beloved as a source of plant-based, local fare (most of the restaurant’s ingredients come from the owner’s Be Love Farm), Gracias Madres is probably best known for its amazing patio.
Olive trees grace a space that holds comfy seating, heaters, a full-service bar with festive tiles, and a candle-lit shrine. Daytime on the patio seems most special during Sunday brunch (you must try the Mexican Mimosa). At night, strung lights and a roaring fire confirm claims of this patio being one of the best in LA.
Gracias Madre is located at 905 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood, CA 90069.
The folks at Sage Bistro in Culver City – which is just a skip out of downtown LA—say that their field-to-table restaurant is a place you can “bring your date at night and your momma in the morning…” Dates and mommas love fresh, farm fare—and unpretentious patios. That’s what you’ll find at Sage.
Sage is unassuming upon first glance (it sits in a mini mall on a major intersection), but step in, through the lovely patio, and you’ll quickly see that this place is a treasure. Fresh, organic, plant-based cuisine is on the menu. But, this menu is unlike other farm fanfare you’ll find in LA. Follow this drill to best enjoy Sage. Bring your date for a romantic dinner (enjoy a table for 2), and share the Gourmet Cheese Plate followed by Spinach Basil Ravioli Pomodoro (followed by vegan ice cream). Then, meet momma in the morning (opt for the communal table) for Chia French Toast or Chilaquiles (followed by vegan ice cream to go).
Safe Bistro is located at 4130 Sepulveda Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90230.
What do you think about a patio overlooking the Pacific? Malibu Farm offers just that. This tiny restaurant at the end of the Malibu Pier serves wholesome food made with ingredients from local farmers (home-grown strawberries, basil, kale, chard, and tomatoes, Malibu-sourced lemons, oranges, and more).
Owner Helene started out making farm-style meals for family and friends, in her own backyard. She opened Malibu Farm and continued to supply her café guests with produce from her land, and turned to neighbors for more goodies like figs, apricots, asparagus, and fresh herbs. Are you ready to enjoy a magical breakfast, lunch, or dinner in LA? Visit Malibu Farm and plop yourself into a seat outside on the creaky (but charming) wooden pier boards or on the rooftop patio.
Malibu Farm is located at 23000 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265.
