Put down that iPad and bring home this abacus.
Another day, another great find at Krrb’s holiday pop up, Home for the Holidays! Among all the unique, vintage and handmade items, there’s no way you can miss the Vintage Abacus from the 1920′s. This baby is the definition of cool, but what else do you expect from the good folks at Brooklyn Reclamation? I mean, really.
Read on to learn more about these ancient counting instruments and why you’ll want to get your hands on this one.

The largest and by far, coolest calculator we have ever seen.
Abacuses, (abacii?) also called “counting frames,” date back earlier than the 14th century as the primary way of calculating and making the maths. Modern school abacuses, like this one, feature a vertical bead frame and is used to represent numbers without the need of a place value. They are most commonly used nowadays as toys to help kids learn to count. We would also suggest using it to make your home look awesome.
This rare and well taken care of abacus has tons of history and can add some schoolhouse charm to your place. An added bonus – the purchase of an abacus comes with a new title: an abacist. How cool is that?
