Map of the Day — Popularity of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in the United States

Each day over the next two weeks we’ll be posting maps that have caught our eye. You know, from charting David Foster Wallace’s characters in Infinite Jest to tracking food trucks in San Francisco, these maps will have you exploring.

As enthusiasts of living local, this map by Local Harvest showing the growth of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in the United States makes us incredibly happy. From 1984 to 2010, CSA programs supporting local farms have been sprouting up all over the country. By the end of 2010, there were about 5000 CSA farms, further demonstrating the demand for local, seasonal produce. Two year later, we’re pretty sure that CSAs are going to continue to feed a nation of locavores. Yum!
