Located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, The Bastille Market is one of Paris’ best known and most-shopped open air marchés. And personally, it was one of the best markets I went to because it was the most varied. From gorgeous produce like melons, peaches, plums, tomatoes, beans, and beets, to more exotic varieties of mushrooms and potatoes, you can stock your kitchen well with the top of pick of the crop. You’ll also find prepared foods like breads, cakes, crepes, Ethiopian and Turkish stands, fresh juices, and delectable fromages, fruits de mer, boucherie and charcuterie purveyors: I was in heaven. Heaven! You could do your weekly grocery shop here or spend a leisurely morning walking the stalls and chatting with the friendly vendors.
You’ll also find fine French clothing, inexpensive but designery duds, and boxes of extremely cheap, if slightly off brand clothes for a couple Euros. Pair your new wares with handmade and vintage inspired jewelry, or accessories imported from places like India, Morocco, and West Africa.
The market is four blocks long and three stalls wide with large gaps between for lounging with your salmon chive and goat cheese crêpe, as I did and loved every minute of it.
