By Flowers is a way cool little vintage clothing store tucked away in Paris’ mythic quartier, known worldwide for welcoming the most famous Bohemian artists of the mid-19th and early-20th century. Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh all had studios or worked around the area. It is a must see on any visit to the city.
Located between the Basilica of the Sacré-Coeur and the cabarets, owner Jon, 23, found this tiny storefront three years ago. In addition to the regular Parisian customers, this young Frenchman has visitors from all over the world. Perhaps By Flowers holds a special place in the hearts of tourists because John makes a special effort to speak with his customers in their own language. Yes, Jon speaks English, Italian, Spanish and manages to mumble a few words in other languages with a wry smile. And no matter what language he has to speak or how long it takes, Jon insists on telling the story of every single piece he sells. It’s almost like getting a personalized tour of your favorite museum.
Thanks to multiple suppliers, By Flowers’ merchandise is eclectic and entirely unique. Prices vary from 8 to 50 €, and items range from top international designers such as Yves Saint Laurent to the must-have used pair of Levis’ shorts. The store restocks daily thus each visit is a surprise! Mix in a little vintage furniture, records, old newspapers and magazines and there’s not much more a real vintage hunter could ask for. More importantly you’ll be charmed by a living and breathing Parisian bobo. Sign us up!
