Travel Locally – Touring on Two Wheels

Set out to see the world on two wheels this season and travel like a local. Whether you ride through wheat fields, down main streets, or across boardwalks, biking covers more ground while still remaining personal. Aside from being one of the greenest forms of transportation, traveling by bicycle gives us a chance to interact with the landscape and those who inhabit it. At Krrb, we encourage neighborly behavior and it’s all the better when you’re offline (and on the road) to experience it. Here are three cycling adventures that will make you want to saddle up.

Shop With the Locals

In the Mile High City, the Denver Independent Boutiques network is calling on it’s cycling community to explore local shops via a bike crawl. On May 19, the event kicks off at noon at The Wheel Club 404 at 404 Broadway. Cruisers can enjoy a sidewalk sale, discounts and get a crocheted bike tag along South Broadway. Coast along Santa Fe Drive to check out the outdoor market complete with a food, prizes and a bike check. A final stop at Meadowlark Lounge at 2701 Larimer will host a trunk show, food trucks and a DJ. You are sure to ride home with bags of goodies hanging from the handlebars. Cruise Through the Landmarks

Since its French debut in the summer of 2007, Vélib — a public bicycle sharing system has outfitted Paris and neighboring cities with over 20,000 bicycles. Demand for this popular transportation model is responsible for similar programs popping up in cities all over the world, including Barcelona, Melbourne, and Washington D.C. Bike sharing stations in touristy hotspots cater to the influx of visitors while keeping noise and air pollution down. It’s become a trendy way to see the local sights and enjoy slow travel.

Camp Off Road

It gets more and more difficult to disconnect from our phones, social media, and schedules, so even short getaways make all difference. Oregon-based Cycle Wild leads free camping trips by bicycle. They offer classes on basic camping, animal identification, and navigation. Better yet, Cycle Wild leads year-round camping trips that are within 75 miles of Portland. So load up your fixie and get to exploring.
